Have students compose lyrics for an original musical composition or use the melody from well-known children’s songs or popular songs on the radio to synthesize their learning.

The content of the song should convey the student’s understanding of the material. Assessment should not be based on how well the song is performed, could be a part of it, or how well it is composed.

Allow students to record or perform their song live. Some students may have anxieties about performing in front of their peers. Recording allows students to decide which version/take they want to share.


This is an example of a song composed to the tune of popular song “Call Me Maybe” and performed by a group of students about Viking life.
